Michael Jordon, Basketball Legend

The take of Michael Jordan I shot for Fortune Magazine for a story on corporate charisma was the most successful cover in the magazine's history. It was so successful that when Fortune's marketing people rate news stand sales of covers they leave the Jordon cover out of the mix because it would blow their statistical average making all other covers look like poor sellers. For the shoot, which included three different sets, I rented out the arena for the Orlando Magic - an expensive proposition. I later got audited by the IRS for that year - a line item like "basketball arena rental" stimulated their interest and red flags shot up. As an explanation I brought along the cover to the audit and the most of the IRS' Denver contingent emptied out of their cubicles to see the shots. The IRS manager, a Jordan fan, took my case and signed off on it right there.
